The Lenten Wednesday Evening program continues tonight with a discussion of Pride. This meeting will be hosted at the Martin’s and will include Evening Prayer. Please pre-read Proverbs 16:18, Proverbs 29:23, Romans 16:17-18, I Corinthians 1:10-13, Phillippians 2:3, I Timothy 3:6, Titus 3:1-3, and James 4:11-2.

Proverbs (KJV)
16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
29:23 A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

Romans 16:17-18
Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

I Corinthians 1:10-13
Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. Phillippians 2:3
Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

I Timothy 3:6
Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

Titus 3:1-3
Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

James 4:11-12
Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
