St. John the Divine Still Standing
Please keep the church and congregation of St. John the Divine (Hereford, AZ) in your prayers. Bishop Rasch has been in contact with Fr. Cyphers and as of Saturday, the fire did not reach the church but came about a mile from it. A new fire south of the church also began to approach but the winds shifted and the fire took a different direction. It still has a less serious threat on two sides, but those are quite some distance from the church. Those at-risk kids that Father works with came over yesterday as the fire was approaching and put sprinklers on the top of the church to wet down the roof. God bless them! Fr. Cyphers felt it was safe enough to turn them off today, but there are still in place if needed. Ramsey Road is still closed but the police have allowed Fr. Cyphers in to check on the church. Two days ago when he went up to the church the parking lot was full of fire trucks and police cars – that never hurts! He gave them access to the restrooms and access to drinking water. And he even made it onto the local television news. Keep St. John’s in your prayers, as well as Fr. Cyphers, and all of the folks who are fighting the wildfires, and all those who have lost homes, businesses, livelihoods, transportation, etc.
